Baby Update: 38 weeks!

14 days left. I believe it is acceptable to now start counting down by days.

This week, Peanut is the size of swiss chard. So, that means she is weighing in at around 6.5 pounds and measuring about 20 inches long.

She is certainly proving to me daily how big she is getting. Stretching out is her favourite activity.

Doctor Appointment Update: Went in Thursday for another appointment. My cervix is softened, I am 50% effaced still and I am half a centimeter dilated. It has begun! Now to just get her moving a bit faster and I would be happy!

Also, apparently baby’s head is far enough down that the doctor could feel the tip of her head. That is a finger length away from her exit! WOW!

I have another appointment this week, so fingers crossed for even more of an improvement. 🙂

Helping her along: I have absolutely loved being pregnant…until the last week or so. I am uncomfortable, have no patience and am grumpy (sorry to those I have been sassy at).

So, to encourage her to hurry up, I have been trying to do things to jump-start labor.

  • I am walking…TONS. Which is not much of a change from my daily life since teachers walk lots anyways.
  • I attempt to eat spicier foods.
  • I take the stairs when possible. For those of you who know my level of clumsiness, don’t worry. I only take the stairs UP…not DOWN. I don’t need help falling, especially with my center of gravity being all baby belly.
  • I also have started bouncing on a yoga ball. This one I have been told helps a lot. It has managed to make me feel funny, so we will see if yoga ball bouncing is magical or nah.

Birthday Predictions: My sister thinks baby will be here on October 27th. I am hoping she is right. I personally do not want my peanut born on Halloween. So she better not miss her window of opportunity. 😉

Delivery worries & thoughts: I am starting to realise that soon I will be birthing a small human. It is quite scary. I have faith it’ll all be fine, but still, thoughts of things that could go wrong pop into my head sometimes.

Luckily, my husband is reassuring and helps me put my worries aside.

At this point, I am so ready to have her in my arms that anticipation outweighs my worries. HURRY UP TINY ONE!

Other fun things: My poor furbabies must know something is going on. Both have been extremely cuddly the last few days. Perhaps that is a sign!

My TP divers had Districts the other day. Baby was good and didn’t come while I was judging (that could have been awkward). YAY for my kiddos as well for making it to Regions! Now, we just need to hope baby comes before or after Regions so I can go 🙂

38 weeks down, 2 weeks to go!

Baby Update: 27 Weeks!

WOW! We are now well into month 6 of this pregnancy and wishing time would speed up/slow down at the same time!

Baby Hill is now the size of a cucumber. Measuring in around 15 inches long and weighing around 2.2 pounds.

As you would expect, growing baby also means growing belly. Baby likes to kick around and squirm regularly now. She really is having a party in there. Along with baby movements does come so discomfort, but she is worth every kick to the side and back ache.

Food: By now all the food cravings and aversions are the same as they have always been. Nothing new here. Baby has quite the sweet tooth!

Emotions: This deserves its own little subtitle this post because HOLY COW I have been soooo much more sensitive the last week or two than I have my entire pregnancy. Little things that normally would not bother me have caused me to burst into tears.

(For example, in Target with my hubby the other week and I cried because the bump was making finding a dress a struggle. If you want to read the whole experience it’s up on the mum blog, just click here!)

I have been really lucky on the emotional side of pregnancy hormone changes, but the last couple weeks has truly been a tearful one. Hoping this part does not last long…for me and my husband’s sake. 😉

Doctor Updates: Had my glucose test the other day. People are not joking about how gross the stuff you drink is. BLEH! Still waiting to hear about my results. *fingers crossed*

Update: got a call this morning, passed my glucose test! Yay! However, am needing to take an iron supplement because I am anemic. At least that’s an easy fix to help baby and myself stay healthy!

The doctor also measured my belly for the first time this appointment! I was pretty flattered. Means my belly has grown enough to measure! Woot! I have gained about 17 pounds so far in this pregnancy, and most of that is belly and breast weight (thankfully).

Fun Facts: We had an awesome baby shower the other weekend that my sister through for me. It was great! So many wonderful friends and family came to celebrate Peanut…and were amazing enough to give us some baby essentials to help us when she arrives.

The cutest activity my sister did was the onesie painting. It was adorable. Baby Hill will have tons of fun, decorated clothes to wear from newborn until 24 months!

Another exciting thing happened just the other day. I traded in my 2011 Ford Fiesta (stick shift) for an automatic 2012 Nissan Rogue. I am now officially feeling a bit more maternal with a cute SUV that can fit baby things better than my little pink hatchback would have.

I may have shed a tear or two once the trade was finalized due to the exciting new chapter in my life that is becoming more and more real everyday.

The next couple weeks will be crazy ones. High school diving season starts back up tomorrow and pre-school trainings start-up Tuesday. So long summer, hello busy fall schedule.

27 weeks down, 13 more to go!

Baby Update: It’s a….!!!

IMG_3144So, excitingly enough I was able to push my ultrasound foward, making it possible to find out Baby Hill’s gender a week earlier than planned. My impatient side got the best of me.

(Also, since this post is happening at the same time as my normal biweekly baby post, I will pick that up again at 23 weeks.)

However, before I get to the exciting news of what gender Peanut is, I figured it would be fun to share some old wives tales that I did to “predict” baby’s gender prior to the appointment.

  • Morning sickness/nausea – I had terrible nausea throughout the entire first trimester of my pregnancy. This wives tales indicates: GIRL
  • Chinese Gender Calendar – This one is easy, you just took up your month of conception (February) and match it with your age when it happened (25). Results: BOY
  • Mayan Gender Calendar – This is similar to the one above, however it has to do with odds and evens. You look at the age in which you got preganant and the year. If both are odd numbers or even numbers it’s a girl, for one of each it’s a boy. Results: GIRL
  • Cravings – I really have not had too bad of cravings, but the things I have craved most have been meat and milk. This wives tale indicates: BOY
  • Complection/Nails – Supposedly if those two things worsen, it means the baby is sucking the beauty out of you (girl), if they improve (boy). For me, my skin broke out more on my face than normal and my nails have gotten extremely weak. Results: GIRL
  • Heart rate – My baby’s heart rate has always been above 140. This wives tale indicates: GIRL2015-07-02 20.28.18
  • Ring test – You put your wedding ring on a peice of string or one of your hairs, dangle it above your belly and see how it moves. Mine moved in a circle, which means: GIRL
  • Baking Soda Test – Now, this one may seem gross, but you put 2 TBS of baking soda in a clear glass, and pour some of your urine on it. It will either bubble (boy) or do nothing (girl). Mine resulted is no chemical reaction, which means: GIRL
  • I also (of course) took the #TeamPink or #TeamBlue vote to social media and asked people to voice their opinions…the results:   33% said BOY, 67% said GIRL!
  • And for the record, Daddy thinks BOY! Mummy thinks GIRL!

So, based on old wives tales and silly tests…I should most likely be having a girl. But what is the baby’s actual gender, you may ask?

Well, this appointment was not as easy as one would hope. The little one was kept moving around and had its little legs crossed tight, so seeing its gender was a challenge.

After our tech lady made her original, but unsure guess, we decided to have me move around a bit and she tried to push the little one to move.

Finally, we got a quick glimpse that seemed to make it a bit more certain. 2015-07-02 20.26.16

Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like Baby Hill is a little girl ❤
(not 100% sure, but it’s good enough for me)

Both my husband and I were extremely excited to find out the news, but more importantly, we were excited to see just how healthy our little Peanut is. It is amazing how something so tiny can grow into a little human. I am so thankful that everything has gone well in my pregnancy thus far, and hope for that the rest of the way as well.

22 weeks down, 18 weeks to go.
