Thought for the day: Bring it on Christmas!

I know we all just love to jump from Halloween to Christmas…however (in America) we like to get through Thanksgiving first.

Since Thanksgiving has officially come and gone. all I can say is..

Grab your shopping bags! Buy your trees! Throw up some pretty lights and decorations! Put on some happy tunes! And let’s get going.

Time to start getting ready for the most commercialised holiday during the year.

I love Christmas. It is easily in my top three for favourite holidays.

However, I hate how much it has been transformed from a happy celebration and time with family to all about toys, Santa, money, “their present was better than my present” kind of mentality.

I think we should all take a step back from the hustle and bustle side of Christmas to breathe and recognise the true meaning.

It is not all about Santa and how many toys you receive. It is about something much, much bigger and better.

This is a poem I found, that I believe sums up what I am saying in this thought for the day…enjoy!

In todays’ day and time,
it’s easy to lose sight,
of the true meaning of Christmas
and one special night.

When we go shopping,
We say “How much will it cost?”
Then the true meaning of Christmas,
Somehow becomes lost.

Amidst the tinsel, glitter
And ribbons of gold,
We forget about the child,
born on a night so cold.

The children look for Santa
In his big, red sleigh
Never thinking of the child
Whose bed was made of hay.

In reality,
When we look into the night sky,
We don’t see a sleigh
But a star, burning bright and high.

A faithful reminder,
Of that night so long ago,
And of the child we call Jesus,
Whose love, the world would know.
