Thought for the day: We all need our beauty sleep

Go figure, the day I have a bazillion things on my list of things to do, my alarm decides to ignore its setting. I slept almost five hours more than I originally planned. Thirteen hours in total. I can only assume my body needed it.

The first thing experts will tell you about sleep is that there is no “magic number.” Not only do different age groups need different amounts of sleep, but sleep needs are also individual.

Just like any other characteristics you are born with, the amount of sleep you need to function best may be different for you than for someone who is of the same age and gender. While you may be at your absolute best sleeping seven hours a night, someone else may clearly need nine hours to have a happy, productive life.

For a 22-year-old girl, going through a Masters programme, usually I run on about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night. That works for me. Sure I am a bit tired come the end of the day, but I have trouble falling asleep in general.

Maybe today was my body’s way of telling me I need more sleep.

When you get to little sleep, people can always tell. You will get the “You don’t look yourself today” or the “you look tired” comments. AKA…you look like rubbish and need to get yourself together.

Too little sleep means bags under the eyes for me. So maybe a little more zZz’s are just what my body needed to get rid of the bags, and pep up my spirit after this week.

I don’t really know, I am just making this up, but it could be true.

Either way, there is a such thing as beauty sleep. If you look run down, I suggest it. Sleep makes you feel better and look better. So if your body wants to sleep let it.

I did! Although I feel my day was wasted, I do feel more rejuvenated. Sometimes sleep is all you need to give yourself a little pep up.

Yea its hard to be a bubbly person and not get enough sleep. It seems like people come out of the woodworks just to ask you “what’s wrong” and “are you sick or something” the days you get like 2 hours of sleep. Tragic!!
