Thought for the day: Gasp! Law school?

Since I started my Masters degree I have come to realise just how much I don’t fully know what I want to do with my life.

Am I in the right field? Why do we spend so much money on just a piece of paper with our names on it?

A group of us decided to work on an assessment coming up in our course for law and ethics, when I had a realisation…

I really enjoy law. I enjoy the argument. I enjoy where my ethical and moral compasses leads me when it comes to media law.

Is it a crazy thought to pursue an even higher education after I finish my Masters course? The thought has crossed my mind.

The first thing to pop in my head was a scene from my favourite movie, Legally Blonde. The scene where Emmett says, “You think she just woke up this morning and said ‘I think I will go to law school today’.”

I enjoy learning. I enjoy the fact that I did not know something and come out knowing so much more than I originally knew.

I mean, it helps to avoid the “real life” fear in my mind and just stick to being a student as long as I possibly can, but it is much more than that.

Is it so bad to have an extra degree for a back-up plan?

What if journalism is not the career for me?

My mind is in so many places today, it is hard to even begin to explain what is really going on inside my noggin.

What I do know is that I want to apply for law school. Whether I get accepted or not will be the deciding factor. What is meant to be will happen..or not.

I have two things on my side on a daily basis that keeps me going, no matter what my circumstances might be.

Motivation and faith.

  1. You know, you also have a rather close friend to chat with about this particular subject. For your current peace of mind, if you were to chat with your friend, he probably would say that finishing your current course of studies is a good idea, as anything that makes you a better writer and communicator will improve your lawyer skills should you ultimately go that way. Of course, you have not had that chat yet, so maybe next February things will line up for it, assuming you can work your friend into your busy schedule writing all these blogs.

I def feel ya on your thoughts. I hate the fact that college is no longer meant for its original purpose. It was originally for those who wanted to further their education or to have a guaranteed better paying job than the rest of society. Now its too easy for people to get into college. I say you follow your intuitions on this one. Cause no matter what you do you got the support of a fellow St. Petersburgian on your side 🙂

As I read this I am still so unbelievably proud of you for what you have already accomplished! As I always told you – you can do anything you put your mind to do…motivation and faith…with a good bit of hard work and a supportive network of friends and family to help along the way!
