DIY: Don’t want to wear Mom’s dress? What about her shoes?

Some brides-to-be DREAM of wearing their Mom’s wedding dress on their special day. It keeps tradition, has sentimental value and (with some alterations if needed) it can also save money.

However, as a future bride-to-be, I loved the idea of wearing my mother’s dress, but it would not suit my wedding at all.

Bummed out that I will not be using any bit of her dress that was handmade by my great-grandmother, I decided to get my head out of the “white dress” clouds and focus on other important factors of my outfit;

WHAT SHOES TO WEAR!

Luckily for me, my mom and I wear the same size shoe…and she just happened to have saved her cute little kitten heel wedding pumps from her special day.

I tried them on and it was an instant fit. Only problem was…the shoes were a bit dirty and the heel tips were worn.

(After being in a box for 25 year, they went from white to a cream colour).

Plus, I wanted a bit more of myself in the shoes I wore…they needed some *Sparkle*.

So, I got the heel tips replaces for $9 at a local shoe store then I went to Pinterest and started searching…and I found it!

Mod Podge Shoes!

And they seemed easy enough to make…so I went to my craft store and bought all my materials.

Materials you need to turn your mama’s wedding shoes into your sentimental, special, Cinderella shoes;

- Mod Podge (I got the glossy one)

- Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer

- Glitter (Go with fine glitter if you are choosing a colour. For Cinderella-like shoes use normal sized iridescent glitter)

- Sand Paper, Painters Tape, Brushes, Aluminum Foil.

First thing you want to do is prep your shoes. Cover the heel tips with tape and stick some foil inside of them to avoid getting the Mod Podge all on the inside.

Stick some foil into a bowl (don’t want to mess up your bowl), pour in some Mod Podge, then add your glitter!

Now, I would buy more glitter than you think you will need…I ran out after the first two coats. Avoid the extra trip to the craft store….

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH GLITTER

Start painting those shoes! Try not to do too clumpy of the mix, makes the shoes dry funny. Try to keep the mix even when you brush it on. Leave 15 minutes of dry time between coats.

Since I did iridescent glitter, I had to do about FOUR coats to make it really sparkle. I even added extra glitter after brushing on the final coat. I made it rain glitter all over those shoes.

Leave the final coat to dry. I let mine sit for an hour.

After that, take those shoes outside and spray them with the acrylic sealer. This makes the glitter stay put and keeps your shoes shiny. Do two coats, 10 minute dry time in between.

Once you’ve done that just leave them someone at room temperature for 24 hours or so…then BAM! You have some awesome wedding shoes.

For those brides on a strict budget…These shoes only cost me $20.23!

So, if your mom still has her shoes from her wedding, change-up tradition.

Keep the sentimental value and specialness of wearing something of your Mom’s while also having the wedding dress of your dreams that suits both you and your wedding perfectly.

WARNING: GLITTER WILL GET EVERYWHERE…BE PREPARED TO RANDOMLY FIND IT ON YOURSELF FOR THE NEXT WEEK OR SO!

It is really hard to narrow all the reasons I love my boyfriend down to only 5 things…plus I like to keep some of them entertaining and not all serious…so thinking of this one was a bit harder than I thought.

BUT, I think I’ve got it!

NUMBER TWO REASON: He puts up with me…and my Disney mentality

Poor boy. He had to learn quite quickly that I love Disney and like to think of the World as a happy place where nothing bad happens.

He tends to be the more grounded person in the relationship, when I tend to be a bit more naive to specific topics…such as the human race.

But, when I tell him things like he is my Prince Charming in my little fairytale in my head OR that he reminds me of Danny Zuko from Grease…he goes with it like a total champ.

Who doesn’t love a guy who understand your love for Disney and is willing to go along (to an extent) with your bubbly, optimistic, sunshine thought process.

Perhaps one day I will even talk him into taking a trip to Disney with me

I am sure you are wondering…what is the number three reason I love my boyfriend.

Well, this one is an easy one.

NUMBER THREE REASON: My boyfriend is extremely supportive

My boyfriend is so fantastic about being supportive when it comes to my goals in life.

I have not had the best track record with supportive men in my life, so to have someone who truly cares and wants me to be happy makes me realise how lucky I am.

He wants to me go for my goals for things like my career, and where I would like to see us and other big things.

Even if we have completely different short-term goals, we support each other and know that in the end the long-term goals we have are similar and we are on the same page.

This is a short one, but I mean, what else can I say…my boyfriend is amazing for supporting me and my dreams..and I love him for that.

Plus, I see him in 3 short days!

I decided although this is a somewhat shallow reason to love my boyfriend, you will see what makes me love it once I do some explaining.

REASON NUMBER 4: His accent and English-ness.

I know saying I love him for his British accent is a bit shallow, I am aware of that, however his accent versus my accent is one of the reasons we have grown stronger as a couple.

Due to the fact phrases are different in England/America and [apparently] the accents are different, we had a bit of communication struggle at the beginning of the relationship.

Mainly because I was not understanding what he said and I made him repeat himself on a regular basis.

Annoying, I know.

Not saying we still don’t misunderstand each other, but the fact we had to clearly communicate brought us closer and helped us to understand one another quicker than I think some couples do when they are from the same country.

Plus, being an American girl I had to better explain what I was thinking because, as we know, boys brains are wired COMPLETELY different…but also…being from a different country proved to be a hurdle as well.

I love that my boyfriend is English…we communicate much better than we use to and a lot of it was thanks to the bit of a language barrier (if you can call it that since we spoke the same language…but differently).

Also, when my boyfriend comes to America..I get to make all the other girls jealous that he has a british accent and he is all mine

Thought for the day: #5 reason I’m so smitten

So, in 5 days I will be traveling across the pond to spend 10 days with my amazing boyfriend.

Our long distant relationship is very trying for us both, but we can see how worth it it is to keep it up.

So, I figured for the next 5 days I will list my top 5 reason why I love him…and what makes him so amazing to still have me completely smitten, even an ocean away.

*Don’t worry, I won’t make them all super sappy

REASON NUMBER FIVE: He is 100% genuine

My boyfriend is one of those amazingly, rare people who are so honest people sometimes take it the wrong way. But once you get past that initial thought, you realize that he is being extremely genuine, which not a lot of people are.

With my boyfriend “what you see it what you get” and I admire him for that. I like to

think that way about myself, so it is nice to have my other half have the same characteristic.

He never pretends to be something he is not. And when he has an opinion about something you will hear it from his point of view and he will do his best to advise you in the best solution.

I love having someone like him in my life who is down to earth and real when it comes to trials in life. I have dated guys who have never had anything bad happen to them and they are unable to relate to you when you go through something difficult…my boyfriend can relate to me and give me advice from what he’s experienced.

He is an amazing person. I am so lucky he is not only my boyfriend, but my closest friend as well. <3

Thought for the day: A new me…sort of

Lately I have had some extra thinking time than normal.

I have come to this amazing realization that I am very different (in a positive way) since I have moved back from England.

Now, no offense to the city I was born and raised in, but it tends to be a black hole where people my age get stuck…and never leave. So, getting the chance to escape to another completely different part of the World and learn all sorts of things has opened my eyes and helped me better myself.

What have I learned you may ask? Well one thing I grew to love and appreciate about London was its culture and diversity.

London is a city that has multiple cultures mixed into one. If you travel into a different borough of London you sometimes feel like you are in a completely different country due to the change in culture, but that is what makes London so wonderful.

Along with broadening my mindset on different cultures and really learning the meaning of diversity, I also learned a lot about myself and the friends I keep and what kind if people help my succeed and which ones (to be honest…not to offend anyone of course) I learned which “friends” I could live without and not be fussed about it.

Although I love the USA and it has many pros for me that England does not have. Moving to England made me realize mainly that my thought process growing up was not wrong at all.

When I was little I use to tell my family I was “too big for this city…I could do much, much better.” I use to think I just hated it here, but I realize that’s not it at all.

I am bigger than this city for the fact that I know I can do more with my talents else where. Even if it is a city 5 miles from mine now.

So, let’s see what life has in store for this girl. For now, its all about loving my family, saving up for a future with my one and only, and enjoying this city for what it is…

Disney Audition: Take Two

I have gotten multiple responses and questions about my first attempt at auditioning for Disney, so I figured I should let you all know how my second attempt at auditioning went.

This auditions was for the voice/face of Ariel for the Little Mermaid show. I saw the audition slightly last minute, but decided I would give it one more try.

(**Side note for those of you who read my first blog about Disney…I have about 16lbs since the last audition.)

The typecast for the part of Ariel was too perfect for me to pass up: between 5’1″ and 5’4″, soprano vocal range and looks between the ages of 16 to 20.

AKA the typecast WAS ME.

The song requirements was having 16 bars of a song on sheet music, where you had to sing along with a pianist. Now, since I decided it would be a good idea to do this audition last minute, I had no time to practice this song with someone playing it…

If you audition for a vocal past, I would definitely recommend not just showing up without practicing it like I did. Luckily it was a song that I could sing in my sleep, so I was okay. However, probably not the best thing to just chance it.

Now, when you got the audition you signed up at the front and they gave you a number. For this audition they had two rooms for auditions going, so they got people in and out of there as quickly as they could.

They had you do the voice audition first, if you made it past that then they took you to costume to check out if your body/facial feature would suit the character…

and let me tell you…they had VERY SPECIFIC measurements for Ariel. I made it past the vocal audition, which made me happy. However, of all the girls there that auditioned, only ONE made it to the callbacks.

Like I said ladies, VERY SPECIFIC TYPECAST.

Sadly, another Disney dream bit the dust for this girl.

Only difference between defeat and success is how you look at it. I know deep down it doesn’t matter that I didn’t get the part because in my heart I know I am a Disney princess.

If you auditioned and didn’t get it…don’t give up. Audition again and keep your chin up. What am I doing with myself now that I have stopped chasing the Disney princess dream?

I am just keeping on with my happy self; loving life, laughing lots and randomly breaking into song and dance thinking I am in a fairytale.

Thought for the day: True friends

I find it interesting how as your grow older you come to really recognise who your REAL friends are.

I thought I had that somewhat sorted out when I first moved to England. I realised quickly who really cared and wanted to stay in touch, and who just forgot I existed.

Now, my perception on who my friends are has once again changed now that I have moved back to Florida.

Friends who know I am back in town, who I thought would want to catch up and so on have put in very little to no effort.

I am not saying I expect to have a bunch of these people texting me daily.

I have a handful of friends who live busy lives like me, but they still make a point every week or so to text me or Facebook me to see how I am doing.

That is a true friend.

Not the people who act like they want to stay in touch but only respond to effort I put towards the friendship.

I don’t even know what kind of friendship that is.

I have been home for about a month now, and it has been interesting to see who has put forth any effort to even send me a text to say hello.

I enjoy finding out who my true friends are verses these people I thought were friends, but I realise they are nothing more than acquaintances.

Some of you may read this and think “hmm…she may be talking about me.” If you have to think that…then yes, this is probably referring to you.

However, I must say…thank you to all my TRUE friends who have put in some effort. Not only those friends from Florida..but also all of my friends from around the world.

Thank you for being a real friend.

The beat and vocals in this song instantly made me fall in love with it. I don’t think I could possibly get sick of hearing it. Absolutely lovely.

This song just has some swag to it that I can’t explain. I love it…plus it is CONSTANTLY stuck in my head.

Adam Levine…you are attractive and you can sing. I approve.

I know this doesn’t really seem my type of music. But the beat to this song is EPIC and I suppose you can say Westside rubbed off on my music taste a bit.

3: Taylor Swift – I Knew You Were Trouble

It pains me to have a T. Swift song on my Top 10…but I can’t deny that this song is much different from her norm and actually is really good. I like it. No judgement if you do too.

HELLO! Bieber fever remember…yes, he is on my list twice. You know you (secretly) love it.

A majority of my friends in the States have never heard this (probably because he is from West London)…and when they do they become OBSESSED! If you enjoy humour and a catchy tune, this song is for you. You are welcome.

Thought for the day: Drivetime has come to an end

I’m sad to say it, but I am officially down to my last four Drivetime shows on Westside 89.6FM.

Leaving London means leaving my hosting slot on my favourite West London radio station.

However, I would have no changed the experience for anything.

I have learned SO MUCH over the past 6 months working at the station.

My confidence and radio personality has reached more of its potential than I would have ever thought.

As host and producer to my own show I got to not only be the personality, but run the board and pick the subjects I talk about on the show.

Funny national days, celeb birthdays, music news and entertainment gossip are all a part of my show.

Even taking the tunes OLD SKOOL for part of my show is something I brought to my slot.
