So, I managed to pop a tire whilst driving around St. Pete last night. With the help of a friend, he showed me how to change a tire.
This post is to help you with changing a tire if you are like me and don’t have ANY IDEA what to do.
Step 1: GET OFF THE ROAD!
Make sure when you start to feel something is wrong with your car, you pull over. Don’t just ignore it.
Step 2: Assess the situation
Get out of your car once you have pulled over, and see what is wrong. Check the tires, in this case, and see which one is flat.
Step 3: Get the tools you will need from the car.
In this situation you will need… A SPARE TIRE… A TIRE IRON…A JACK…and if it is dark a flash light (that probably would have been helpful last night)
Step 4: Remove the hubcap (if necessary) and loosen the lug nuts.
Make sure you loosen opposite lug nuts. So loosen diagonally…not 1,2,3,4…etc. Don’t remove them yet…just loosen in this stage of the process.
Step 5: Time to jack up the vehicle!!
Make sure to check the owners manual or the tire changing instructions to find out where the correct placement for the car jack would be. Don’t want to mess something up whilst lifting your car.
Step 6: Remove the flat tire
This seems easy enough…right?
Step 7: Put on the spare..or the donut!
If you have a donut tire…like I did..note that it looks like a clown car wheel. Don’t go over 40mph-ish with it on…and watch out for curbs.
Step 8: Lower the car..and tighten the lug nuts!
Don’t want to forget this…or your car will not drive for very long. REMEMBER: opposite lug nuts when tightening!
Step 9: Clean up your mess.
Put everything back where you found it…incase you pop another tire in the near future.
Step 10: Drive home…and if you have a donut on…get a new tire soon!
If this step-by-step process did not help you out…and you still can’t change your own tire…just do what I did.
Call a nice handsome gent who KNOWS how to change a tire…and watch him as he does it for you
